Chinmaya Mission – which means the “Mission of Knowledge” is a global organization with 400 centres worldwide engaged in spiritual, educational and social services. In North America alone, over16,000 students participate in the spiritual education and self-development activities every week, in the various centres in USA and Canada.
Chinmaya Mission was established in India in 1953 by devotees of the world-renowned Vedanta teacher, His Holiness Swami Chinmayananda. Following the Vedic teacher-taught tradition (guru-shishya parampara), Chinmaya Mission makes available to all, the ageless wisdom of Vedanta, the knowledge of the one Reality, and provides the tools to realize that wisdom in one’s life. The program for children and teens, called Balavihar has over the last 60 years, established a track record of excellence in self-development with its structured syllabus, camps, community service activities etc, under the guidance of Acharyas and Swamis, who have dedicated their lives to this cause.
Chinmaya Mission brought their quality program to London, ON and commenced its activities in September 2011, under the guidance and leadership of Acharya Vivek . Today we have grown to about 150 students, who attend classes every Sunday afternoon , attend monthly Devi Satsangas and attend other weekly classes.
In London, the program is run by volunteers, many of whom are active professionals (Doctors, Engineers and other Professionals in daily lives) who undergo on-site teacher training (at a Chinmaya Regional Centre) twice a year by Acharya Vivek, and have to engage in continuous studies of the scriptures through the year, via online sessions engage in reflection and answer knowledge questionnaires fortnightly. All of them are also involved in serving our community, in various voluntary roles and projects – giving them an opportunity to learn, serve and grow.
